Assistant professor Daniel Hall and Postdoctoral Researcher Jianpeng Cao, from the Section of Design & Construction Management, Department of Management in the Built Environment at TU Delft's Faculty of Architecture, attended the International Association for Automation and Robotics in Construction (ISARC) 2024. The conference took place in Lille, France, from June 3rd to 5th and featured six keynote talks and over 200 presentations.

Jianpeng Cao presented on "Reinforcement Learning for Smart Mobile Factory Operation in Linear Infrastructure Projects" on behalf of the SMF4Infra project team, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). The paper can be accessed at https://doi.org/10.22260/ISARC2024/0096.

The presentation addressed the coordination challenge between offsite construction and on-site assembly, exploring how mobile factory operations could be planned for infrastructure projects. The research introduced a Reinforcement Learning-based project scheduling method capable of modeling factory mobility, interaction with logistics and site activities, and the dynamic uncertainty of productivity.
